Qatar Emir and Iranian President Meet in Moscow
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met with Qatar's Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani in Moscow on the sidelines of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum, according to Iranian state media.
During the meeting, the two leaders reviewed bilateral relations between Tehran and Doha. Iranian state television reported on Tuesday that their discussions focused on several key areas:
- Expanding political and economic relations between the two countries.
- Utilizing existing capacities to enhance bilateral cooperation.
- Increasing cooperation within the energy sector.
Media reports made no mention of discussions regarding the US-Israel war on Iran, which has involved missile and drone strikes across the region, including in Qatar. Doha has been involved in mediation attempts to bring an end to the nearly eight-month-old war.
At a weekly briefing on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Qatar's foreign ministry called on Iran to cease threatening Gulf states to allow diplomacy to reduce tensions in the Middle East. The spokesperson added that a Qatari delegation visited Tehran to assist mediation efforts and help create a path toward a resolution with the United States.
