Democratic Victories and Trump's Response

US President Donald Trump has responded to the US midterm election results after Democrats secured control of both the Senate and the House of Representatives. Trump acknowledged the outcome, telling Fox News that "the Democrats did a good job" and "fought hard." In comments to The New York Times, he stated he was "absolutely willing to accept" the results and looked forward to working with Democrats.

Despite expressing a willingness to cooperate, Trump anticipated using his presidential authority to block incoming bills. He stated that Democrats would send "insane" legislation to his desk, but believed both sides would eventually work together after several months of vetoes. On his Truth Social platform, Trump shared an image of a red cap featuring the word "VETO."

Criticism of Republican Candidates

Trump voiced disappointment with the Republican performance, saying he expected the candidates to perform better. Announcing on Truth Social that he intended to act as a political pundit evaluating why candidates succeeded or failed, Trump criticized specific campaign efforts. He targeted Texas Governor Greg Abbott, who was defeated by Democrat Gina Hinojosa—marking the first Democratic gubernatorial victory in Texas in more than 30 years. Trump claimed Abbott lost because he became a "Republican in Name Only" during his final six months in office.

Speaking to CBS News, Trump suggested that voters rejected certain candidates who were not aligned with him. He maintained that Republicans would have achieved an easy victory had he been on the ballot.

Election Factors and Media Comments

Trump pointed to the conflict in Iran as a key contributor to the election outcome. He noted that while voters supported his strategy regarding Iran, the resulting increase in US fuel prices pushed voters away from Republican candidates.

The election night also featured another historic outcome in Texas, where James Talarico became the first Democrat to win a Texas Senate seat since 1988.

In addition to evaluating candidates, Trump criticized Fox News on Truth Social. He accused the network of devoting too much coverage to Democrats and criticized its decision to interview former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio.
